About Arctic Finland

About Travel Guide To Arctic Finland

Victor Leinonen is a Finnish-born author with a diverse background. I moved to Australia in 1971 with my family. Traveled to work in Lapland Finland as a chef/cook from December 2008 to December 2017. The natural environment of Arctic Finland offer a truly unique experience – from the seasons, the two extreme ends of light to the long winter months, and long summer days with the mass migration of birds in the spring season. All of these come together to form an exceptional perspective on the Nordic movement of life.

Victor writes about the locations of Lapland, where he has worked, skied, snowboarded, trekked, traveled, and photographed. A brief layout of Lapland municipalities is included, with place locations of West, East, North, and central Rovaniemi Lapland.

Victor is a keen traveling photographer, traveling on skies in the back country during the winter season and foraging for berries during the summer season and photographing all the impressions of all the seasons of the natural environment.

Travel Guide To Arctic Finland covers the following 12 regions that are a hub of activity during the holiday seasons.

  •     Rovaniemi.
  •     Salla
  •     Pyhä / Luosto
  •     Saariselka.
  •     Karigasniemi
  •     Ivalo
  •     Inari
  •     Ylläs
  •     Äkäslompolo
  •     Lewi
  •     Pallas.
  •     Kilpisjärvi

The above list is not in any particular order, I have listed them because they are the places where I spent the most time in, mostly in the winter season. Each regional location is unique with its history, culture, facilities, and cultural traditions. In order of the size of the city or town and the facilities, then the rule could start from Rovaniemi to Lewi, Ylläs to Saariselkä,  Pyhä to Luosto, Kilpisjärvi to Inari and Pallas.  The above is not a complete list of all the exciting locations in Lapland. The general idea of the place varies in size, and the urban modernization of the facilities, holiday centers, and Ski Resorts. Rovaniemi is a small city, not a ski resort. There are many services to activities, safaris and ski resorts from there. Pallas Tundra is a remote national park, with very little development made there, in comparison to other locations like Lewi and Saariselkä. Rovaniemi is a city, while Salla, Karigasniemi, Ivalo, and Inari are towns. Ylläs Tundra lakeside is the only one with a big Gondola to the summit.
